Descriptive Analytics vs. Predictive Analytics

Descriptive analytics utilizes historical data to help reason why certain situations occur. Basically, data is organized and presented in a digestible fashion to inject reason into past events. This is different from predictive analytics in that the latter utilizes statistical modeling methods to predict future outcomes. In other words, predictive analytics attempts to utilize machine learning algorithms to create predictive models.
