Continuing the discussion on range of outcomes, variance, and the game tree, and relating it to a larger field size, should give us a solid understanding of what an increased field size means from a conceptual perspective when building rosters.
The more entries that are present in a given contest, the closer to the optimal path we must be to win. It’s that simple. This does not mean we need to be anywhere near complete optimal, it simply means we are actively building to account for increased variance due to the potential for outlier production each week.
