Week Two Start/Sit: WR and TE

Week 1, huh! What a week! Went 4/5 in my sits, but only 1/5 in my starts! And don’t get me started on the tight ends! Ok, since we went there, what a super terrible week from an already frustrating position! 4/5 on my sits but whiffed completely on the starts. Let me get some Week 2 in here so I can rinse the taste of Week 1 from my mouth!

But first…

Last Week: 9-11 (.450))

– WR: 5-5 (50%)

– TE: 4-6 (40%)

2024 NFL Season: 9-11 (.450)

– WR: 5-5 (50%)

– TE: 4-6 (40%)

Wide Receivers

The Don’t Get Cute Club. Start these guys every week:

– CeeDee Lamb

– Tyreek Hill

– Justin Jefferson

– Amon-Ra St. Brown

– Ja’marr Chase (especially once this contract business is behind him)

– A.J. Brown

Starts

Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams

He’s back, friends! And maybe just as important, Puka is out. Stafford loves him some Cooper, and I also do this week. 21 targets and 14 grabs last week. Those aren’t typos. Add in 110 yards and a TD, and we’ve got a WR8 finish. It’s cherry-picking for sure, but I don’t mind it. Cooper is going to have another monster week, so get him in there.

Malik Nabers, New York Giants

Daniel Jones is a terrible QB, and he’s robbing the Giants blind. Acknowledged. But. We’re attacking Washington here, who just got BLOWN UP by Baker and the boys. Nabers had good volume, hauled in five grabs, and had a respectable floor game. This game has the potential to see what this kid’s ceiling is gonna look like. I’m starting my shares, and you should also.

Honorable mention: Garrett Wilson, DeVonta Smith, Jaylen Waddle

Sits

Christian Kirk, Jacksonville Jaguars

Kirk led the team in targets last week, and I love his slot participation. One catch for 30 yards doesn’t pay the bills, but I’m almost willing to give him a pass. Almost. Gabe Davis and Brian Thomas Jr. just looked like the better receivers, and Evan is around to steal targets. Plus, the Browns this week, who – in case you weren’t aware – are pretty good at defending the pass (ask Dak.) It’s a no for me, dawg.

Calvin Ridley, Tennessee Titans

Start/sits are about matchups if they’re about anything. And this one is bad for Ridley. He’ll almost certainly be on Sauce Island (is that a thing?), and we know what that looks like (Tom Hanks from Cast Away). Yes, the 49ers gouged them, but that’s the 49ers and Week 1 rust. That secondary is just fine, and they’ll bounce back this game. Plus, I’m not convinced Levis is legit. Tough week ahead for the Titans.

Honorable mention: Diontae Johnson, Michael Pittman Jr., D.J. Moore

Tight Ends

The Let’s Not Overthink Club. Start these guys every week:

– Sam LaPorta

– Travis Kelce

– Trey McBride

– Mark Andrews

Starts

Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons

This is more of a hunch because the matchup doesn’t excite me. The Falcons will have to throw the ball here – a lot. Even though he only saw three targets (all catches), he was on the field the entire game. Volume, remember? In a game where Kirkers has to throw, Pitts is as good a bet for yards and a touchdown as just about any TE out there.

Colby Parkinson, Los Angeles Rams

Speaking of Stafford, hello, Colby! Same thing here; this is about opportunity at a weak position. Parkinson saw five targets turn into four grabs for 47 yards. And while the Cardinals did a decent job last week against Buffalo’s talented tight end duo, I expect a slight uptick in action for Colby with Nacua sitting. Literally nobody behind him on the depth chart, so let’s throw a dart at our old friend volume.

Honorable mention: Pat Freiermuth, Evan Engram, Dallas Goedert

Sits

Cole Kmet, Chicago Bears

Did someone say cherry-picking? And yes, I’ll pick on Kmet here all season long if I have to. The Bears offense looked bad, and if you were in the Discord chat with me Sunday, you already know my thoughts on that. One target. Four yards. 27% route participation (per the Sporting News). I hate all of it. And until I see otherwise, Kmet will be parked in my sit column (despite my love for him and his potential).

Luke Musgrave, Green Bay Packers

Man. And to be honest, I expected it, but still. Man. Musgrave has fallen out of favor in Green Bay. HARD. It would be hard to recommend Musgrave EVER after his Week 1 dud – two targets, no catches, nothing. Tucker Kraft outplayed him all the way around, and that concerns me. Honestly, who knows what to expect with Willis under center, but I still don’t trust Musgrave. Not only is he an absolute sit, but I’m ok dropping him everywhere. I’m sure you already knew that, but in case you didn’t, here’s your affirmation.

Honorable mention: Mike Gesicki, Luke Schoonmaker, Dalton Kincaid
