The Titans just lost a terrific coach in Mike Vrabel, but they have brought in Brian Callahan, the offensive coordinator from Cincinnati, to be their next Head Coach. Callahan has a pass-first philosophy, and he should be able to help Will Levis get to the next level. The Titans also showed that they were very interested in improving their offense by adding Tony Pollard and Calvin Ridley in free agency.
Levis came into the league with some fanfare last season, but he never seemed to figure it out. With a new offensive philosophy and a coach who just came from working with Joe Burrow, the sky seems to be the limit for Levis. He’s got a rocket for an arm, and he’s not afraid to take chances downfield. Moreover, he’s got surprising mobility, and now he’s got a great set of skill receivers. He’s better served in Superflex leagues, but there is upside.
Pollard got a raw deal last season in that it just seemed like Mike McCarthy never used him properly as a starter in Dallas. He’s ideally a 12 to 15-touch player who can make some huge plays if given the opportunity. He should be a wonderful balance to Spears in that they both play similarly.
Spears was Derrick Henry’s understudy last season, and there were a lot of people who thought that he was going to be the starter coming into 2024; however, the Titans decided to sign Tony Pollard. Both Pollard and Spears have a similar running style in that they’re low to the ground and can get around the outside and make some big plays. Moreover, they are also excellent receivers out of the backfield.
People thought that Calvin Ridley was going to go to New England or some other team that had tons of money, but nobody predicted the Titans would give him the bags of money that they did. He was slightly inconsistent last season in Jacksonville, but I blame that as much on Trevor Lawrence as I do on Ridley. He’s going to be the focal point of this offense and he should be able to dominate lesser cornerbacks. Look for him to get close to 1000 yards receiving and about eight or nine touchdowns.
Hopkins may have lost a step or two since his days in Houston and Arizona, but he’s still a very capable receiver who should be a wonderful outlet. Young quarterbacks need receivers who are exceptional route runners, and Hopkins is a master at getting open, so he should be able to do that at will for Tennessee.
Callahan brought Boyd over in free agency to be the Titans slot receiver in free agency. He’s very familiar with this offense from his days in Cincinnati, and he should be a sure-handed target for Levis.
If Callahan can get some confidence into Will Levis this team could be one that surprises in both fantasy and reality.
