Williams burst onto the scene in 2023, rushing for over 1,100 yards and scoring 15 touchdowns. Here’s the kicker. He only needed 12 games to accomplish these feats. However, as we know, with HC Sean McVay, could change his backfield at the drop of a hat. The Rams drafted former Michigan RB Blake Corum in the third round of this year’s NFL draft, which gives some much-needed depth at the position. It was announced on Tuesday that Williams will be the primary punt returner for the Rams this season. I am not sure that we have seen a true RB1 serve as the team’s punt returner. This leads me to believe that Corum will have a bigger role than originally expected. Tread carefully when selecting Williams.
Kamara is looking for a bit of a bounce-back season after missing the first three games of the 2023 season due to suspension. He never really got on track during the season with Derek Carr under center in his first season with the Saints. With a full offseason, Kamara could be in for another good season, given that there is not much competition at the RB2 spot. Kamara excels in the passing game, one thing fantasy managers value in running backs. Jamaal Williams did not and still does not pose a threat to Kamara’s RB1. If anything, hybrid player Taysom Hill would be one that could potentially steal snaps from Kamara, but those would be few and far between.
Kamara’s upside this season, even as a 29-year-old back, outweighs Williams’ upside if the Rams truly use him as their punt returner. That is an odd workload for an RB1 to carry in today’s NFL. Add Kamara where you can in your leagues.
