I was in a recent PPR Best Ball Snake Draft. The top 2 teams in the league cash, and there is no grand prize. The lineup consists of 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 Flex, 1 Team K, and 1 Team D/ST. I drew the number one overall pick, which I like as it fits my overall draft strategy to a tee most of the time. I will review my picks and highlight some of the other team’s ones.
Round 1, Pick 1 – RB Christian McCaffrey, 49ers:
This is an easy pick for me as CMC outscored the second-highest-scoring back by 100 points last season. Where I am drafting, I will get solid value at receiver at the 4th and 5th round turns.
Round 2, Pick 24 – RB Rachaad White, Buccaneers:
A ton of running backs came off the board in this round, and I was getting scared that White would not make it to me. He was my target here, and I had a sigh ofrelief that he made it to me. An excellent pass-catching back who should be able to pick more up on the ground with an improving Buccaneer offensive line. Remember last season, it took the Buccaneers a few weeks to get the offense moving and to get White more involved in the offense. He could finish as a top 5 back.
Round 3, Pick 25 – WR Michael Pittman, Colts
This draft is going just the way I wanted it to. I have him rated much higher than anyone else. Truthfully, I like him better than all the receivers who were drafted in the second round. Yes, even over Marvin Harrison Jr. and Davante Adams. He has had 99 and 107 catches over the past two seasons, with bad to horrendous quarterback play. QB Anthony Richardson is back with a much better safety net at backup in Joe Flacco. I expect Pittman’s TD numbers to increase significantly, making him a solid asset here.
Round 4, Pick 48 – WR Zay Flowers, Ravens
Round 5, Pick 49 – WR Chrisitan Kirk, Jaguars
My running back room is solid at this point, so I knew I needed to draft a receiver with both picks. Both are clear-cut number-one receivers on offenses that should score. Flowers can score from anywhere on the field, and I expect Kirk to have 100 catches.
Round 6, Pick 72 – RB Zamir White, Raiders
I missed out on the top quarterbacks here, and there is no need to reach up and draft a QB left now. White is an easy choice, as he is the lead back for Las Vegas. He finished out last season with four straight games with 20-plus touches. The Raiders offensive line should be solid, and this is just a steady pick here that rounds out my receiver room.
Round 7, Pick 73 – TE Evan Engram, Jaguars
I like Engram as a target monster this season and was surprised to see him on the board here. I would have taken him ahead of Kyle Pitts, who was drafted 9 picks earlier. I also caught a break that two teams have drafted two quarterbacks already before drafting a tight end. My team is solid right now, but what will be left at QB?
Round 8, Pick 96 – QB Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars
I’m pleasantly surprised he made it back to me. I was worried that Team 2 would take him instead of Jayden Daniels, so it worked out for me. Lawrence was expected to have a good season last year, but injuries plagued him. Now I have a solid team stack with also having Kirk and Engram.
Round 9, Pick 97- QB Caleb Williams, Bears
I LOVE my team, so I decided to draft a quarterback with running upside. Williams has a ton of weapons, and he is going to have some huge weeks. He was another quarterback I would have drafted before Daniels, so I like the spot where I drafted him. I feel very fortunate to have landed both Daniels and Lawrence back-to-back, considering the solid squad I have put together in front of them.
Round 10, Pick 120 – RB Gus Edwards, Ravens
Round 11 Pick 121 – RB Zach Charbonnet, Seahawks
At this point in the draft, I know I can get a ton of receivers later who have some value. I still have my big 3 and decided to curb my running back room. Edwards is going to get a lot of action, especially near the goal line, and Charbonnet will get third-down work and can be a league winner if RB Kenneth Walker sustains an injury.
Rounds 12 – 15
I only had three receivers on my team and needed to address that position immediately. Samuel, Shaheed, Wicks, and Mooney have big game potential and will have some big games this season. I don’t think I can ask for much more drafting this late.
Rounds 16-30
In these late rounds, you try to round out your team and have to come away with several team kickers and team defenses. Not much stands out in these rounds. I did get QB Sam Darnold, who should start several games for the Vikings. I do like getting Patriot WR K.J. Osborne in round 26. He will have a game or two where he shines. I am taking him in almost all best ball drafts for free.
Team Mistakes
I question Team 6. They drafted three quarterbacks through the first 10 rounds and then the first two defenses off the board in rounds 14 and 15, which is too early. Teams 11 and 12 took quarterbacks in rounds 5 and 6, passing on solid position options.
In Conclusion:
I gave myself an A for this draft, but who doesn’t think they did well? I think my team is solid from top to bottom and has a chance to win. I am worried that my tight end room is a little thin, and if Evan Engram gets injured, I will beg for tight end points. My running back room is my strength, and my receivers have a lot of upside. Look for more of my best ball draft articles to come out and I promise there will be some non-A draft grades.
