Fantasy Football WR vs. CB Matchups: Week 8

Good

MIN WR Jordan Addison vs. LAR CB Josh Wallace

The Vikings are looking to get back on track after suffering their first loss of the season to the Lions. Addison has not left his mark on this season yet, but this could be the game he does. The Rams have not been able to stop the run, which has set up opportunities for teams to make big plays in the passing game. Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell has done a masterful job this season with this offense led by QB Sam Darnold. Addison will have chances to make plays against the rookie corner Josh Wallace.

MIA WR Tyreek Hill vs. ARI CB Sean Murphy-Bunting

Now that QB Tua Tagovailoa is on track to return under center this week, fantasy managers can breathe a sigh of relief. Tyreek Hill is fantasy-relevant once again and in a big way. Arizona’s secondary has been shredded by just about every team they have played this season. Hill will be chomping at the bit to make big plays as he has done early this season. Something must change in Arizona defensively, but it will not happen in a short week.

NYJ WR Garrett Wilson vs. NE CB Jonathan Jones

Both of these teams have their own internal issues, and both teams will be looking to prove something on Sunday. Specifically, Wilson will want to make up for his play in Pittsburgh last Sunday night. The Patriots are surrendering 223 passing yards per game this season. Trevor Lawrence was able to take advantage last week in London, so this could be the “get right” game Aaron Rodgers needs to try to right the ship in New York. I know a lot of fantasy managers are bummed about Wilson’s performance this year so far but stick with him. His high-point games will come, and this game could certainly be one.

Bad

WSH WR Terry McLaurin vs. CHI CB Jaylon Johnson

McLaurin has had a strong season despite the slow start in the first couple of weeks of the season, but this week is not looking favorable for him. QB Jayden Daniels suffered a rib injury early in last week’s game that could cost him some games. Marcus Mariota played well in relief of Daniels, but it was against Carolina. We have not seen Mariota play against a really good defense in a while, but we may get a chance this Sunday against an outstanding Bears defense. The Bears have held opposing teams to just around 170 passing yards per game this season while stopping the run and creating turnovers. McLaurin is certainly not a smash play this week.

ARI WR Marvin Harrison Jr. vs. MIA CB Jalen Ramsey

Fantasy managers will have to be patient another week with the rookie. Despite the victory on Monday, Harrison was kept to just three catches for minimal yards. This week, the Cardinals face the Dolphins in Miami. The Dolphins will have a giant boost with Tua coming back, and this defense, which only yields 154 passing yards a game this season, will be ready to roll once again. They bottled up Colts QB Anthony Richardson last week on the road, but Kyler Murray is a different animal. As long as they contain Murray in the pocket as they did mostly with Richardson, it will be a long flight home for Arizona.

BUF WR Keon Coleman vs. SEA CB Tre Brown

Coming off a four receptions for 125 yard game, it would be easy to have FOMO on Coleman this week, but look at the body of work for Coleman this season. Yes, having Amari Cooper step into a WR1 role will help Coleman. However, Coleman is still a rookie and learning to play in the NFL. This Seattle defense just held Atlanta to 14 points on the road, and it will cause problems for Coleman. Brown, Riq Woolen, and Julian Love are all dealing with injuries, so it will be worth keeping an eye on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday injury reports. As of right now, though, look for other options if you can.
