Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week Four

Every week, I will share my favorite waiver wire or free agent pickups in fantasy football. Here is what I have for week four!

QB:

Sam Darnold, Minnesota Vikings

He just keeps getting it done. In one QB leagues, he is still available, but you won’t get another chance to grab him after this week’s big performance against the Texans. He is for real, and the Vikings appear to be for real, too. He threw for 4 TD and now has 8 TD passes through three weeks.

Bo Nix, Denver Broncos

He just had his coming-out party in week three. He took the Broncos on the road and beat a good Bucs team. He threw the ball well (25/36 for 216), ran the ball well (9 for 47), and looked comfortable for the first time in the NFL. He could be good in fantasy, especially in particular matchups.

Andy Dalton, Carolina Panthers

What a difference a change at quarterback makes for an offense. The Panthers’ offense looked historically bad in the first two weeks of the season, but with Dalton in week three, they not only improved but actually looked good. Dalton threw for 319 yards and 3 TD without turning the ball over. I wouldn’t jump to put him into your starting lineup (although he has a fun revenge narrative game this week against Cincy) but after his week 3 performance, he should be considered now in deeper leagues.

Daniel Jones, New York Giants

I know this sounds crazy because we all know Jones is bad, but he put up good numbers in week three against a solid Browns defense. He can put up points with his rushing ability, which makes him interesting, especially with a matchup vs. the Cowboys on Thursday this week. The Cowboys defense has been terrible the past couple of weeks.

RB:

Bucky Irving, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

He has been the more explosive runner in the offense and should continue to see more touches because of it. Whether you have Rachaad White or not, you want to add Irving immediately. If you don’t roster White, you could even pick up Irving and then trade him to the White owner. Irving averaged 7.8 YPC on 9 carries compared to White’s 2.8 YPC on 6 carries. He now has more rushing yards than White in all 3 games this season.

Chuba Hubbard, Carolina Panthers

With Dalton under center and the Panthers offense actually looking alive, Hubbard suddenly has fantasy value. He had a big game in week three against a pretty good Raiders defense and will continue to be the lead back for at least another few weeks while Jonathan Brooks recovers from his injury. Hubbard had 5 catches for 55 yards and a TD in addition to his 114 yards on the ground.

Tyler Badie, Denver Broncos

Although McLaughlin got the TD, and Williams is thought to be the top dog, it was Badie who led the RBs in carries (9) and yards (70) in week three. It might have just been that he was the hot hand, and the Broncos decided to roll with him, but if you are desperate at RB right now, he is worth a look. Williams averaged 2.4 YPC, McLaughlin averaged 1.4 YPC, and Badie averaged 7.8 YPC.

WR:

Wan’Dale Robinson, New York Giants

He is the most targeted player in the Giants offense behind only Mailk Nabers, and he has at least 6 catches in two of his three games so far this season. There aren’t many playmakers on this Giants team, so Robinson will continue to see action and could be a reliable flex option in deeper PPR leagues, especially when bye weeks begin. If he has another solid game on Thursday against the Cowboys, though, he may not make it to the bye weeks. If you like him, get him now.

Darnell Mooney, Atlanta Falcons

Mooney made some big plays in the second half of week two, and it seemed to have earned him the trust of Kirk Cousins. He was good again in week three against a tough Chiefs defense, making 9 catches. He led the team in receiving yards in week two, tied London for the team lead in week three and led them in receptions in week three as well.

Allen Lazard, New York Jets

He now has 3 TD catches this season, and for now, he should be considered the WR2 in the Jets offense. He isn’t as talented as Mike Williams, but he does have a history with Aaron Rodgers, and it is paying off in the early part of this season.

Jalen Tolbert, Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys seem to be pretty bad. Their defense looks atrocious, and their running game is non-existent. Lamb and Ferguson are Dak’s favorite targets, without a doubt, but Tolbert has been getting opportunities to make plays and has double-digit PPR points in each of the past two weeks. He has an upside this week against the Giants and could develop into a nice weapon for Dak, especially if the Cowboys continue to play from behind.

Tutu Atwell, Los Angeles Rams

He led all Rams WRs in targets and tied Parkinson for the team lead in targets in week three. He had 93 yards receiving, which was nearly triple the amount of Demarcus Robinson, who was 2nd on the team in receiving. This wont be the case every week, but Atwell has been in the Rams system for a while and has big play ability. He is worth a flier in deeper leagues because he has a gunslinger at QB.

DeMario Douglas, New England Patriots

The Patriots offense is bad, so other than Stevenson and maybe Hunter Henry, you likely aren’t using many of their players. Still, I can’t ignore the 9 targets that Douglas saw in week three and that he caught 7 of them for 69 yards. He saw more than triple the targets of any other WR on the team.

TE:

Cole Kmet, Chicago Bears

I think the Colts defense is pretty terrible, so I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself, but Kmet had a monster day against them in week three. He saw 11 targets, catching 10 of them for 97 yards and a TD. Things could change when Keenan Allen returns from injury. However, that could affect the WR targets more than it affects Kmet.

Tyler Conklin, New York Jets

I wouldn’t go crazy here because it might have been matchup-dependent, but Rodgers looked very good in week three, and Conklin was a big part of it. Conklin was second on the team in targets, tied Garrett Wilson in receptions, and led the team in receiving with 93 yards.

Brock Wright, Detroit Lions

This completely depends on whether or not Sam LaPorta’s injury is serious. If LaPorta is going to miss a game or more, Wright becomes a nice addition because of his involvement in a high-powered Lions offense. Wright finished the week 3 win with 4 catches for 34 yards.
