Doc’s Visionary Plays: Week Two

QB:

Jared Goff, Lions

Goff normally plays well at home, and although the Lions won a close game against the Rams in Week 1, his stats were underwhelming. Look for him to rebound this week against Tampa. When these two teams played in the NFC playoffs last season, it was a game filled with offensive fireworks. I’m expecting Goff to get about 275 yards and at least two touchdowns, with a good chance for three.

Jayden Daniels, Commanders

Daniels was impressive with his legs last week but not so much with his arm. Playing the woeful Giants should give him an opportunity to correct that which makes him dangerous in fantasy circles. If he can finally hook up with Terry McLaurin and his other receivers, there’s a chance that Daniels can throw for about 250 yards this week. Add to that his normal 40 to 60 rushing yards, and we’re looking at a Visionary play.

Brock Purdy, 49ers

Everyone will be playing Jordan Mason, which is why sometimes, to be a Visionary, you have to flip the switch and play players who most people don’t expect. I think the Vikings are going to make a concerted effort to stop Jordan Mason and force Purdy to pass. Purdy is in line for a big day with at least 250 yards and two to three touchdowns as I think the 49ers receivers are way better than the Vikings secondary.

Honorable Mention: Patrick Mahomes, Dak Prescott

RB:

Kyren Williams, Rams

The Bills basically stopped running the football last week against Arizona, but there were times when James Cook and Ray Davis looked unstoppable. Without Puka Nacua in the lineup, I doubt that Sean McVay is going to stop running the football. In fact, I think that Williams is going to have at least 20 to 25 touches with an excellent chance for 100 yards and a touchdown.

Derrick Henry, Ravens

Last week, the Ravens were playing from behind, so they didn’t have the opportunity to give the ball to Derrick Henry 25 times, but I think that’s going to correct in Week 2 against a Raiders defense that was gashed by the run vs. the Chargers. You know that Henry’s going to want to score a touchdown and put on a show for the Baltimore fans and if anybody can find the end zone twice this week it certainly could be him.

Josh Jacobs, Packers

With Jordan Love most likely unavailable, look for the Packers to lean heavily on Jacobs. Moreover, Malik Willis struggles so much at quarterback that the only passes I expect him to complete are dump offs to Jacobs. Look for Jacobs to have about 125 total yards from scrimmage and a touchdown.

Honorable Mention: Alvin Kamara, James Conner

WR:

Amon-Ra St. Brown, Lions

If you drafted St. Brown in the first round of your fantasy draft, you must have been horrified at his three catches for 13-yard performance in Week 1. That’s going to absolutely change in Week 2. Tampa runs the Cover 2 defense, which is a zone coverage that St. Brown totally devours. Moreover, Jared Goff knows that after last week, he must get St. Brown more involved in the passing game. I also would climb the ladder on his prop bet I think he goes over that by a ton.

Malik Nabers, Giants

If the Giants want to win any games this year, they’re going to have to figure out a way to get their ball to their best player, Nabers. We all saw what Baker Mayfield was able to do against the Washington secondary, and this week, Daniel Jones needs to step up and do the same. None of the Washington corners can cover Nabers one-on-one, so the Giants have to take some chances downfield and try to get him the ball deep. I’m thinking this happens and he has a breakout game of over 100 yards and a touchdown.

Cooper Kupp, Rams

Kupp caught 14 passes against the Lions, and now, with Nacua out for the next four games, I expect Kupp to catch at least another dozen against Arizona. He’s Matthew Stafford’s go-to guy, and there’s nobody on the Cardinals who can cover him. The best part about the Rams is that they always move Kupp around pre-snap, so it’s hard to get a clean look at him on defense, and he’s able to catch deep and short passes alike. You can etch him into your lineups in seasonal leagues and DFS contests.

Honorable Mention: CeeDee Lamb, Amari Cooper

TE:

Mark Andrews, Ravens

Week 2 often involves the correction of unexpected things from Week 1. The pervading thought is that Isaiah likely is going to be the new foundational tight end for Baltimore, but that’s just not the case. Andrews was still involved in many snaps against Kansas City, and although he didn’t get the football thrown his way, he was still highly involved in their snap count. Look for Lamar to find Andrews at least 5 or 6 times with a great chance for a touchdown.

Evan Engram, Jaguars

So many things went wrong last week for Jacksonville: they didn’t get Christian Kirk involved enough, and they certainly didn’t get Evan Engram involved enough, either. Engram has always been one of Lawrence’s top targets, and I expect that to happen again in Week 2. Look for him to go for about 12-14 fantasy points with a good chance for a touchdown.

Mike Gesicki, Bengals

With Tee Higgins most likely unavailable and after what the Ravens tight ends did to the Chiefs linebackers there’s a great case to make Gesicki a Visionary play. He dropped a touchdown in the end zone but he is normally very sure handed receiver and I don’t expect that he’ll drop another easy one anytime soon. In fact, I think he gets 50 or 60 yards and a touchdown.

Honorable Mention: Trey McBride, Travis Kelce
