Commanders and Eagles Trade: Fantasy Football Impact

After yesterday’s surprise trade between the Commanders and the Eagles, many fantasy managers may be wondering who could be the WR2 in Washington. In this article, we will go through the viable options for rookie QB Jayden Daniels to throw to other than the bonafide WR1 Terry McLaurin. The Commanders have plenty of wide receivers on the roster as of right now, but who will be worthy enough to make the 53-man roster?

Dyami Brown

Brown would be the obvious choice to slide into the WR2 role with the departure of Jahan Dotson. Brown is entering his third year in the league and has yet to break 200 yards receiving in a season. Given Brown’s stats, it is hard to imagine why the Commanders would trade a productive, younger, more dynamic pass catcher like Dotson. Despite this, Jayden Daniels seems to have a better connection with Brown than past quarterbacks in Washington. Brown will be a hot pickup right now, but I would temper your expectations and hold off crowning him the pickup of the year before the season starts.

Brandon Aiyuk

Maybe the Commanders were never really out on Aiyuk? Yesterday’s trade seems like a precursor to another potential trade, this time with San Francisco to finally obtain Aiyuk, who played with Daniels at Arizona State. Yes, Brandon Aiyuk played with Jayden Daniels in college, even though Aiyuk has been in the league for four years already. Pairing Aiyuk with McLaurin would create one of the best wide-receiver duos in the league. Combine the youthfulness of Daniels, the veteran play of McLaurin and Aiyuk, and the modern offense new OC Kliff Kingsbury runs, and that is one dangerous team.

Luke McCaffrey

McCaffrey, the brother of Niners RB Christian McCaffrey, was drafted in the third round of this year’s NFL Draft. McCaffrey began his college career as a quarterback before transitioning to wide receiver in 2022. If we know anything about the McCaffrey family, it is that they are athletic and live for football. That said, McCaffrey will not be a weekly “should I play him or not” type of guy, but he will see the field often if no trade happens for another wide receiver. He is definitely a guy to keep your eye on throughout the season and could even be draftable in deeper leagues.
