CFB DFS: Week Two

It may be only seven days in the past, but Week 1 feels like so long ago. Mainly because this Week 2 slate just feels SO different. Gone are the FBS vs. FCS matchups, and gone are all the depth chart questions. What we do have this week is a ton of juicy game environments that should see fantasy points scored in bunches, as we have three games with a total above 55 points. How we decide to target those games, in addition to the other ones on the slate, will determine how we do this week. Let’s dive in.

Quarterback

Taylen Green, Arkansas, $7500

This matchup between Oklahoma State and Arkansas has the highest game total on the slate, according to Vegas, at 62.5. Both of these teams utilize an up-tempo offense, so we should see plenty of plays run in this game, and more plays run usually turn into more fantasy points! Green is a true dual-threat who transferred in to Arkansas after starting at Boise State. Arkansas has a familiar face calling plays for them, as Bobby Petrino is back as the OC. I trust Petrino’s abilities as a play-caller to put Green in good situations to score points in this back-and-forth affair. Our friends at DFS Hero agree with me, having Green as their 2nd best value play at the QB position on the slate.

The DFS Hero #1 value play – Haynes King, Georgia Tech, $8100

Others receiving votes: Brendan Sorsby, Cincinnati, $8000

Running Back

DJ Giddens, Kansas State, $6600

I won’t try to oversell you on Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon, who might be the slate’s top overall scorer regardless of position. But what if I told you that there was another back on this slate who scored 60 fantasy points in a single game last season? That’s right. DJ Giddens scored 63 in a game against UCF in 2023. He also complimented that with two other performances over 30 fantasy points. Essentially, Giddens has the same single-game upside as Ollie Gordon. He just does it less often. Thus, he’s $3000 less expensive. I also love this game environment for Giddens as a 9.5-point favorite at Tulane. To me, there is no back on the slate that possesses the combination of upside, matchup, and affordability of Giddens.

Desmond Reid, Pittsburgh, $5900

Reid found himself in the “others receiving votes” section last week, but he’s now getting promoted to the major leagues. Reid only needed 18 touches to put up 33.6 fantasy points in an efficient performance against Kent State. This week, he draws a Cincinnati rush defense that just gave up 194 rushing yards to Towson. He is his backfield’s clear workhorse with a great matchup. He is

DFS Hero’s number one value play at the RB position this week.

DFS Hero #2 value play: LaQuint Allen, Syracuse, $7100

Others receiving votes: Jamal Haynes, Georgia Tech, $6900

Wide Receiver

Malik Rutherford, Georgia Tech, $5500

It was Eric Singleton Jr who came into the season with all of the fanfare. Still, it has been Malik Rutherford who has led the Yellow Jackets in targets, receptions, and receiving yards in each game so far this season (remember, they’ve played two thanks to their week zero trip to Ireland). What I really like about Rutherford is that the Yellow Jackets have moved him around the formation, utilizing him outside and in the slot. This feels like the offensive coordinator is trying to get the ball in Rutherford’s hands in any way possible. He makes a great stacking partner with Haynes King in the game, with the slate’s second-highest total.

Dezhaun Stribling, Oklahoma State, $4800

Stribling’s teammate Brennan Presley got the write-up last week, but I’m now giving the spotlight to Stribling, who saw 8 targets last week and scored 14.3 fantasy points without scoring a touchdown. What I love about targeting this Oklahoma State passing attack is that they essentially only target three receivers (Presley, Owens, and Stribling) so all 3 are in play every single week. And this week, Stribling is the cheapest of the three while only being targeted one less time than Presley last week. Stribling is DFS Hero’s number one value play at the position on this slate.

DFS Hero#2 value play: Oronde Gadsden II, Syracuse, $5000

Others receiving votes: Xzavier Henderson, Cincinnati, $6500

Hail Mary: Luke Hasz, Arkansas, $3300

The true sophomore tight end makes for a great stacking partner with Taylen Green, especially if WR1 Andrew Armstrong misses this game.

The Field Goal: 3 Props to consider (taken from Underdog)

Haynes King (GT) HIGHER 20.55 fantasy points
Mario Williams (Tulane) HIGHER 34.5 receiving yards
LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina) LOWER 169.5 passing yards
