Lou’s 12 Team PPR Mock Draft Analysis

I did a mock draft Sunday morning to try something I haven’t done much of this offseason. I took an RB early, with pick two overall, and my goal was to see how my roster shapes out, considering I am usually a WR early guy.

This roster starts 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 flex, DST, and a K. It’s PPR and 12 teams

Round 1: Pick 2: RB Bijan Robinson, Atlanta Falcons
  • Bijan could easily end the year as RB1, but as long as he is healthy, he will be rock solid and can be a hero RB if I don’t end up with a good second RB. 
Round 2: Pick 11: WR Drake London, Atlanta Falcons
  • My intention was not to take another Falcons player here, but London was the best WR on the board, and after going RB early, I was looking for a WR. 
Round 3: Pick 2: WR Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams
  • Kupp could be as good, if not better, than Puka Nacua this season and is still a very good WR2. If I can get a couple more good WRs here, I will more than make up for not taking Lamb or Hill with the number two overall pick. 
Round 4: Pick 11: WR Stefon Diggs, Houston Texans
  • If you listened to me on SiriusXM this past weekend, you know that Diggs is one of the players I am hesitant to draft because the Texans have so many mouths to feed. In this scenario, though, I feel like I got good value, and as my WR3, I am not as reliant on Diggs to be a WR1 every week. 
Round 5: Pick 2: WR Zay Flowers, Baltimore Ravens
  • I was thinking about my RB2 here but instead quadruped down on another WR. Flowers has no competition for WR targets in Baltimore and could wind up being a WR2 this year, so getting him as my top flex option and WR4 feels like a big win. 
Round 6: Pick 11: RB Najee Harris, Pittsburgh Steelers
  • I could have gone QB here and gotten one of the bigger-name guys, but because it’s a one-QB league, it wasn’t necessary. It would have been a mistake on my part to pass up on a very solid RB2 in Najee Harris, who runs behind an excellent offensive line and plays in a run-first offense. 
Round 7: Pick 2: TE Evan Engram, Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Once again, I could have gone QB here, but for the same reasons I mentioned with Najee, I didn’t feel the need. Engram was the last of the elite TE options, and because of his massive target share in the Jags’ offense, he has a pathway to ending the season as a top-three TE in fantasy. 
Round 8: Pick 11: RB Chase Brown and Round 9: Pick 2: RB Zack Moss, Cincinnati Bengals
  • I needed a third RB, and because I was picking near the turn, I was able to get both Bengals backs. Unless I suffer an injury to Bijan or Harris, I won’t need to use either guy early on this season, so I have time to see which one turns into the RB1 in the offense. Either way, I have the Bengals backfield and feel great about it. 
Round 10: Pick 2: Romeo Doubs, WR Green Bay Packers
  • You can never have too many WRs in a PPR format, so instead of going QB, I once again decided to go with the guy who could be the number one WR for Jordan Love in the Packers offense. 
Round 11: Pick 11: QB Kirk Cousins, Atlanta Falcons
  • It was finally time to draft a quarterback, and my choices were one of Cousins, Trevor Lawrence, or Deshaun Watson. I think most people would have gone with Lawrence, and I was never considering Watson in this spot. My decision to go with Cousins was pretty simple, though. I already had Bijan and London and considering the Falcons offense is expected to be great this season, I now have the three biggest pieces of it. 
Round 12: Pick 2: Steelers DST
  • Sometimes, I will wait until the second last round to take a defense; in this case, though, this was the last of the top defenses available, and I already had some solid depth on my bench. 
Round 13: Pick 11: RB MarShawn Lloyd, Green Bay Packers
  • I wanted to get one more RB, and the goal was to get one that I don’t need early in the season but one that can help me in the second half of the year. Lloyd fits that description to a tee. 
Round 14: Pick 2: WR Ricky Pearsall, San Francisco 49ers
  • This is either a slam dunk pick or my first drop when I need a bye-week replacement. If Brandon Ayiuk is traded, Pearsall gains a ton of value and should be the number two WR in an elite offense. If Ayiuk stays in SF, bye-bye to Pearsall. 
Round 15: Pick 11: QB Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks
  • I needed a backup quarterback for Cousins and one who has a different bye week than him. I was hoping for Baker Mayfield, but he went three picks before me. I do think Geno will bounce back this year in a new-look Seahawks offense that will focus more on the passing game. 
Round 16: Pick 2: K Kai’imi Fairbairn, Houston Texans
  • I usually like to stream kickers throughout the season, but at least to start, I like Fairbairn. He kicks for an elite offense that is going to score plenty of points.
