Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Week 6

Every week, I will share my favorite waiver wire or free agent pickups in fantasy football. Here is what I have for week six!

QB:

Kirk Cousins, Atlanta Falcons

Somehow, he is only 41% rostered on Sleeper. After his incredible performance on TNF, Cousins is about to become very widely owned. Cousins threw for 509 yards and 4 TDs in the Falcons comeback OT win over the Bucs. He finally had his first big game with number one WR Drake London, and he has developed a great rapport with WR Darnell Mooney. He even finally made Kyle Pitts relevant, as Pitts made 7 catches for 88 yards. “YOU LIKE THAT?”.

Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints

He has a good matchup against the Bucs, whose secondary just got torched last week by the aforementioned Kirk Cousins. It’s also a tough week with byes; Mahomes, Darnold, and Stafford are all off this week, so you might be looking for someone to use. My one concern with Carr is that he and the Saints offense seems to be much less effective when Taysom Hill is out, and that is the likely scenario this weekend.

Aidan O’Connell, Las Vegas Raiders

I don’t like the Raiders offense at all, but for those who play in 2 QB leagues or Super Flex leagues, this has to be said. Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce seems to be fed up with Gardner Minshew, and if that is the case, AOC is going to take over as the teams starter. He came in for Minshew in the week 5 loss, and although he doesn’t make a ton of big plays, he is smarter with the football.

Drake Maye, New England Patriots

This is a repeat from last week. I am trying to be a week or two ahead with this one rather than have to do it when the Patriots make the announcement that he is starting. Right now, you don’t have to spend a claim on him; you can wait until after waivers run and scoop him. Since winning in week one, the Pats offense has been terrible, and although it’s not all on Jacoby Brissett, he isn’t winning them games, so it’s time to see what they have in the third overall pick from this years draft.

RB:

Tank Bigsby, Jacksonville Jaguars

He is still only 31% owned on Sleeper, but I have been on Bigsby for weeks. If you haven’t made the move yet, you might be too late. He has either been picked up, or you are going to need to spend a top waiver priority claim on him because he continues to look like and perform like the RB1 in the Jags offense. Travis Etienne has been underwhelming other than his work in the passing game, and the Jags could be moving in a new direction now. Bigsby had 101 rushing yards on 13 carries and 2 TDs. He also added a 28 yard reception.

Jaylen Wright, Miami Dolphins

This is mostly dependent on the status of De’Von Achane. After leaving with a concussion early in their week 5 win, Achane did not return. Mostert filled in nicely with 80 rushing yards and 2 catches for 18 yards, but it was the rookie Wright who exploded for some beautiful runs. He carried the ball 13 times for 86 yards, averaging 6.6 yards per carry. If Achance does miss time, Mostert is certainly startable, but it’s Wright who has all the upside.

Blake Corum, Los Angeles Rams

Week 5 was only the second game this season that Corum had any touches, but the fact that he got the touches is encouraging. He even got a touch in the red zone, which is typically Kyren Williams territory. Corum was a big name during draft season, and at some point, he is going to get more involved in this offense. With the Rams still without Nacua and Kupp, there is even more opportunity for Corum. If you have roster space, stash him because, chances are, with his lack of involvement through the first 4 weeks, he was cut by whoever drafted him.

Ty Chandler, Minnesota Vikings

There isn’t much to say here. Aaron Jones got hurt, and now the Vikings are headed on their bye week. If Jones is forced to miss any time, Chandler will be the starter. If you roster Jones, make this move. If you don’t, I am still okay with adding Chandler; I just would wait until waivers run and then grab him.

Tyler Goodson, Indianapolis Colts

Trey Sermon did score a TD, but he was not good in week 5 while filling in for the injured Jonathan Taylor. Goodson rushed 5 times for 26 yards and caught 3 passes for 31 yards. Sermon ran 10 times but for only 38 yards and caught 6 passes but for only 25 yards. As you can see, Goodson was more explosive and was very productive when he did get touches. If Taylor is forced to miss any more time, expect to see Goodson get more opportunities.

WR:

Juju Smith-Schuster, Kansas City Chiefs

This is for those who didn’t read my article last week or didn’t listen to the advice. You might be too late, but if he’s available, he is a must-add. He saw 9 targets on MNF against the Saints, catching 7 of them for 130 yards. That is a nice 20-point fantasy day in PPR without finding the endzone. Unless the Chiefs make a trade for a WR, Juju is their new number 1 WR as long as Rice is hurt.

Josh Downs, Indianapolis Colts

I have been on Downs for a couple of weeks now, and he continues to deliver the goods. I do worry that when Richardson comes back, he will lose some juice, but it’s hard to ignore the 17 catches, 151 yards, and a TD that he has put up the past 2 weeks. No one on this Colts team had more targets in week 5 than Downs did what I like most about him is that he has a large route tree. He can run all the routes and make all the catches. Other than Michael Pittman, Downs is the most complete pass catcher in Indianapolis.

KaVontae Turpin, Dallas Cowboys

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been all over Jalen Tolbert, and he finally had a great game in week 5 against the Steelers. With Tolbert officially emerging and Brandin Cooks being on IR, there is an opportunity developing for Turpin to become the teams WR3. He is explosive with the ball in his hands, which is why he is an elite returner, but he made the most of his opportunities on offense in week 5 too. He saw 5 targets, catching 4 of them for 50 yards, and he could become another weapon for Dak in what is a pass-first offense in Dallas.

Allen Lazard, New York Jets

I thought Mike Williams was finally ready to be the number 2 WR for the Jets, but it turns out that Rodgers just trusts Lazard. It seems that as long as Rodgers is the QB and Lazrd is healthy, Lazard is fantasy football relevant. After his week 5 TD, he now has 4 TD this season, and he was second on the team in targets in week 5, behind only Garrett Wilson.

Ray-Ray McLoud, Atlanta Falcons

He has back-to-back games with 6 catches and double-digit PPR points. He is the number 3 WR in the offense and won’t always have a big role, but the Falcons do like him, and Cousins trusts him in big spots. If you need some depth, pick him up.

Michael Wilson, Arizona Cardinals

He looks to be the Cardinals number 2 WR now. He has been heavily involved in 2 of the past 3 weeks, and in the week 5 upset win over the 49ers, Wilson actually led the Cardinals in receiving yards.

TE:

Ty Conklin, New York Jets

He doesn’t produce consistently, but he has had some solid fantasy days this season. He has delivered double-digit fantasy points in 2 of the past 3 weeks and has caught at least 4 passes in three straight weeks. With bye weeks beginning, Conklin isn’t a bad backup to have on your roster.

Cade Otton, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

He is the 4th, maybe even 5th option offensively on the Bucs, but the Bucs offense has been elite this season outside of the one hiccup against the Broncos. QB Baker Mayfield is playing the best football of his career, so having pieces of his offense seems like a good idea.

Jonnu Smith, Miami Dolphins

If/when Tua returns from his concussion, I think Jonnu may lose value. However, right now, he could be a quality option for you as QB Tyler Huntley does not throw the ball deep downfield. Huntley definitely was improved in week 5 after a terrible looking week 4, so there is some hope in Miami, and Jonnu fits right into the Dolphins short passing game plan while Huntley is under center.
