The “shotgun” approach (playing as many players as possible hoping to land on the week’s optimal lineup) is far too common in the MME world. If you have the bankroll to do so, it is a viable means to take down a large contest; however, the variance associated with the approach is enough to drive any player broke. As we discussed in the free-to-the-public version of this section, the optimal bankroll-sustaining method to attack these contests is via the “rifle” approach, or utilizing a core of optimal plays and sprinkling in the higher-variance plays . . .
