J.J. McCarthy, MIN
After leading the Michigan Wolverines to the national title in 2023, McCarthy was injured in training camp last season and subsequently missed the entire 2024 season. He spent the down time learning from veteran Sam Darnold and offensive-minded head coach Kevin O’Connell, so expectations are high for McCarthy. The Vikings ranked in the top 12 in both points and yards per game last season and are returning all their elite skill position players (Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, T.J. Hockenson and Aaron Jones). The additions of Jordan Mason through free agency and Tai Felton (third-round draft pick) should also bolster the offense. McCarthy is raw, but his rushing ability gives him a dynamic Darnold (and Kirk Cousins) couldn’t offer this offense.
