Fantasy Football Week 3 WR/CB Matchup Report

Love

BUF WR Keon Coleman vs. MIA CB Jack Jones

Coleman’s services were not needed much against the Jets in Week 2, leading to a disappointing week for managers who were all aboard the Coleman breakout train. The Buffalo pass game has a great opportunity against a division opponent who looks all but broken just two weeks into the season. QB Josh Allen has thrown for multiple touchdowns against the Dolphins in 13 out of 14 career games against the Dolphins and boasts a 12-2 record against them. Coleman is a great WR2/FLEX option for Week 3.

The Dolphins are giving up the 24th most passing yards a game so far this season. Their secondary is riddled with injuries, and have now been diced up by QBs Daniel Jones and Drake Maye. The regression from the defense from last season is alarming. Everything is going wrong for Miami, making Coleman worth the play this week.

DAL WR George Pickens vs. CHI CB Nahshon Wright

Pickens found the end zone in a shootout with the Giants in Week 2, but Pickens could have an even better Week 3. Despite QB Dak Prescott’s chemistry with CeeDee Lamb, Prescott increased his targets to Pickens in Week 2. The former Steelers wideout is one of the best contested catch receivers in the league. With a backup corner on Pickens this week, look for the Cowboys to target him early and often.

CB Jaylon Johnson is more than likely done for the season with a groin injury. Enter Nahshon Wright, who filled in for Johnson Week 1 against the Vikings. Wright snagged an interception and took it to the house for a touchdown, but Wright still struggled. Lions QB Jared Goff put on a clinic against the Bears DBs in Week 2, and it is hard to imagine Dak Prescott not doing the same thing with Lamb and Pickens.

SEA WR Cooper Kupp vs. NO CB Alontae Taylor

Kupp came alive in Week 2, hauling in seven catches for 90 yards. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is undoubtedly WR1 in Seattle, but Kupp showed he can still contribute heavily in the pass game. Despite his age and injury history, Kupp can carve out a consistent role in this offense, and the Saints are a good opponent to keep the momentum going.

The Saints have not had much to hang their hat on so far this season. Niners backup QB Mac Jones diced up the New Orleans defense last week for 279 passing yards and three touchdowns. Just imagine what Sam Darnold will do at home against Taylor and this secondary.

Hate

LAC WR Ladd McConkey vs. DEN CB Pat Surtain II

McConkey has been quite disappointing given his ADP in fantasy this season. He has yet to find the end zone, being overshadowed by Quentin Johnston and Keenan Allen. Who would have thought that the Chargers would be a pass-first offense so far this season, and McConkey has the third-most receiving yards on the team through two weeks? No one. It does not get easier for McConkey either, as he faces off against the best corner in the league.

Surtain got worked last week against the Colts. He will be playing upset and ready to prove a point, along with the rest of the Broncos defense. The Broncos man-to-man defense is lethal, but they will need to get to Herbert to disrupt his hot start to the season. Be cautious when making McConkey your top wide receiving option this week.

MIA WR Tyreek Hill vs. BUF CB Christian Benford

Hill eclipsed 100 yards receiving last week against a very bad Patriots secondary, and the Dolphins still could not get a win. Miami looks like a franchise heading for an ugly car crash that could include some trades and firings. Meanwhile, Hill and the Dolphins are preparing for Buffalo, who have owned the Dolphins since Josh Allen became quarterback of the Bills. In nine career games against the Bills, Hill has not gone for over 100 yards and has only scored twice.

Bills HC Sean McDermott has always had a good plan for Hill and the other explosive skill players Miami has to offer. Buffalo has a veteran secondary that has played in a lot of big games, let alone big division games. It is hard to expect Miami to just turn it around on a short week.

ARI WR Marvin Harrison Jr. vs. SF CB Deommodore Lenoir

Harrison Jr. had a nice Week 1, but was barely noticeable in Week 2 against Carolina. Despite that, Arizona finds themselves at 2-0, facing off against their division opponent in the Niners, who are also 2-0. We know Harrison Jr. is talented and can make plays, but can QB Kyler Murray get him the ball instead of playing his hero ball style? Hard to tell week to week.

Meanwhile, Niners DC Robert Saleh is back where he first made a name for himself, and he has this defense balling. San Francisco is allowing just 166 passing yards a game through the first two weeks. Saleh has switched this defense to a 4-2-5 defense, which entails three safeties and two cornerbacks on the field, allowing for more pass coverage. Saleh will have the field blanketed for Kyler Murray.
